SHERRIE Gore made it eight consecutive ladies' championship titles at Kington when she posted a winning total of 157 (78, 79) to finish 10 shots clear of runner-up Rachel Whitby, on 167 (85, 82).

Pamela Layton was an equally impressive winner of the Iris Paget Trophy, a nett competition played in conjunction with the championship, with a winning score of 134 (85-22-63, 93-22-71), six shots clear of ladies' captain Chris Hughes on 140 (83-14-69, 85-14-71).

n Amanda Marshall (Ross-on-Wye) carded the top score of 44 stableford points to win the Herefordshire GC Ladies' Open and silver division, with another visitor, Jean Baldwin (Forest of Dean), taking the gross prize with 28 points.

Home club members Carol Timms and Jo Ellam won the bronze award and Chairman's Cup respectively, both posting 41 points.

n Dinah Johnston, 84-14-70, held off the challenge of Janet Duffield, 96-25-71, to win a closely contested Gordon Blake Cup at Ross-on-Wye, with Penny Caves, 88-16-72, a further shot adrift in third place.

Jill Oates carded 40 stableford points to win the Mercia Castle Cup and silver division from Lin Bennett with 36.

Dorothy Green took the bronze award with 37, a point more than runner-up Dorothy Rees.

Fifteen teams contested the popular Friday mixed social team event at Ross-on-Wye.

Bearing in mind that the competition was played over only 16 holes, and with three of the four scores to count on each hole, the team of Kay and Roger Cotton, Do Godsall and Gerald Turner posted a staggering 125 stableford points.

They finished seven points clear of David and Margaret Sainsbury, and Jeremy and Hilary Walters, who relegated Mike and Margaret Ellis, and Roy and Chris Crane into third place on a card countback.

n Burghill Valley held a popular mixed scramble with the team of Kris Jones, Geoff Hill, Pat Cox and Cynthia Howard taking the honours.

Nigel Howard, James Davies, Lynda Vaughan and Rita Evans were runners-up, with Mark Prior, Brian Donaldson, Carol Freeman and Rita Buffey finishing third.

n Margaret Leake and Sally Wright immediately drew the attention of the handicap secretary at Ford Bridge GC with some astonishing scoring in the August medal.

Although it is only a short course, Leake recorded an amazing 85-38-47, 13 shots below her handicap, to win the event, with Wright taking the runner-up spot with a splendid 92-37-55.
