HEREFORDSHIRE CBA won on only two rinks when they visited Chester Road Kidderminster, for a match against Worcestershire and were defeated by 122 shot to 111.
The main feature of the match was an amazing fightback by the rink skipped by Gerald Jones, who were 20-2 down after 10 ends. They suddenly found their touch and picked up 17 shots in the next six ends to make a game of it, and went into the final end 25-22 down.
They laid four shots during the end, but Worcestershire managed to cut out three Here-fordshire bowls to lose only one shot and hold on for a 25-23 home victory.
Jack Gray skipped Herefordshire's highest winning rink to a fine 25-12 success, conceding only five ends on a day when the entire rink played well, and president Dave Holloway's rink also performed well to win 19-12.
Ray Walker's rink were down 16-5 but staged a late rally before finally losing 20-16, and the rink skipped by Colin Reading managed to score on only seven ends before going down 25-14.
Frank Harwood's rink also scored on only seven ends before losing 28-14.
n Herefordshire representatives Leominster, skipped by John Harris, beat Liberty of Havering 19-14 in the first round of the fours at the National Express EBA Champion-ships at Worthing.
But they bowed out to Portland Green in the second round with a 28-11 defeat.
Another Leominster player, 14-year-old Shaun Jones went out in the first round of the under-25 singles, 21-20 to C Gale (Lancashire).
Ross-on-Wye's Jill Jones and Enid Gibbons beat K Kyle and L Green (Shepshed) 19-16 in the first round of the pairs at the National Express EWBA Championships at Royal Leamington Spa.
But Herefordshire's other representatives, Ann Benson and Jean Jones (Castle Green) went out 27-9 to A Leach and B Gunn (Caer Glow) at the same stage. The Ross-on-Wye pair were also beaten at a later stage
