MOBILE phones were ringing loudly as students from the Royal National College for the Blind celebrated their A-level results.

The Hereford college attracts partially sighted and blind candidates from all over the country to study a range of degree, HND and A-level courses.

Its renowned facilities and teachers have produced many success stories and this year was no different.

Sara Butler gained a pair of As in human biology and psychology and a B in English Literature, which has granted her the opportunity to study physiotherapy at university.

Roisin Burge, principal of the Royal National College, paid tribute to all the dedicated students.

"These students are an inspiration to us all by not allowing their visual impairment to prevent them from realising their aspirations of progressing to university," she said.

"All are blind or partially sighted, which is challenging when one considers the amount of reading and studying which is necessary for AS and A levels," she added.
