Oadby Town 3 Westfields 0
HOME striker Ashley Warner netted a hat-trick to remind newly-promoted West Midlands champions Westfields that life in the Midland Alliance will be no holiday.
Westfields gave a good account of themselves on their Alliance debut visit to Leicestershire and were in the game until two late strikes from the ex-Peterborough United centre-forward made the game safe for Oadby.
Although without first-choice strikers Paul Burton and Derek Craddock, Westfields still troubled the home defence with twin strikers Lee Ferneyhough and Chris Jefferson both going close to opening the scoring, and Roy Jordan also seeing a fine effort fly just wide.
But just before the break Oadby took the lead when Warner fired home to complete a neat build-up.
After the interval Oadby piled on the pressure but Westfields defenders Kevin Jinks and Sean Davies showed great composure to keep them out, and goalkeeper Jon Pugh producing two excellent saves from Warner and Richard Tanner.
Any Westfields attempt to break away and snatch an equaliser were well marshalled by a solid home defence.
With a single goal debut defeat looking likely, Warner popped up to complete his hat-trick with two goals in the last five minutes.
