HRH the Prince of Wales has doubled his latest donation to Hereford Cathedral, writes LIZ WATKINS.
Last week the Hereford Times reported the Prince had sent a 'substantial' cheque to go towards cathedral repair bills.
This week we can report that was only half of it - another cheque has arrived in the post!
"I could hardly believe it when I opened the envelope.
"The cheque was made out for the same amount as the first one and I thought it had been duplicated by mistake," said Glyn Morgan, secretary of Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust.
But, when he looked closer, the accompanying note made it clear it was the second half of the Prince's donation and drawn from the Duchy of Cornwall's Benevolent Fund.
"It was a great surprise and a good way of celebrating the start of the Three Choirs Festival in Hereford," said Mr Morgan.
Prince Charles is said to have great affection for the cathedral. He has made several visits and given various donations in the past although the exact amount is never disclosed.
