WHEELCHAIRS were not a priority when Hereford Buttermarket was built, but this 21st century concession has finally caught up with the Grade II listed site.
Automatic doors have replaced the timber 'swingers' at the High Town entrance, improving access to wheelchair users, prams and pushchairs.
The doors were built and installed by Herefordshire council service contractor Dorwingear.
"Early indications are that the doors are a welcome addition," said council property services manager Colin Birks.
The Buttermarket is a Grade II listed building within a Conservation Area so English Heritage had to give a go-ahead to the work.
