Newent Council Tax-payers may be asked to fork out for the sight of a union flag flying from the town's flag pole.
The town's new fibreglass flagpole has been in place next to Newent Library for around a month. A new union flag was bought for the community by town councillors Len Lawton, Ray Hill, Eddie Wood and Tony Parsons.
Previously, the union flag was usually only seen on special occasions but the intention is to fly it regularly. The council recognises the flag is likely to have a much shorter life and regular replacements may be needed.
