BOSBURY continued their push for the Hereford & District Cricket League Division One title with an eight wicket win at Bishop's Frome on Saturday.
BISHOP'S FROME v BOSBURY
Bosbury captain Steve Davies won the toss and chose to field in the afternoon heat.
Bishop's Frome openers J Wood and M Quatermass made a steady start, progressing to 25 in the 12th over before Wood pushed a ball from Owen to Richard Davies at short leg for the first of his three catches, and Frome had lost their first wicket.
Liz Dean joined Quatermass and they took the score to 36 before Quatermass mis-hit a ball from Owen to Dave Daffin at cover, and he was out for 20. Liz Dean was out next, caught by Steve Davies off the bowling of Peter Blake for 12.
Progress for Bishop's Frome was still fairly slow at 2.5 per over, with Jon Owen bowling his overs straight through in the heat for just 19 runs.
Bishop's Frome then suffered a setback when Jeff Barnes pulled up with a calf strain, and had to retire hurt with his score on 23. Contributions with the bat from P Bottomley (15), D Turner (21) and T Haigh (12) kept the scoreboard ticking over, but good spells of bowling from Peter Blake (2-27) and Steve Davies (2-26), and a fine performance again from Chris Hill (3-9), resulted in Bishop's Frome being bowled out for 128 after 41 overs.
In reply, Bosbury lost Dave Daffin early on bowled by S Knights for one, with the score on six, bringing P Ledbury out to join Merv Carless.
Ledbury got off the mark with a four and continued to keep up the scoring rate with some good hitting, whilst Carless provided solid support at the other end. The pair had put together a fine partnership of 100 for the second wicket, when Ledbury missed a straight ball from Turner, and was bowled for 58, which included seven fours and two sixes.
Mark Moaby then struck three quick boundaries in his 12no, as Merv Carless finished the game off in style, striking two more fours to take him to 45no, and taking Bosbury past the target score to collect 24 points for the win.
Bosbury have a break from league cricket tomorrow (Saturday) with a friendly match at home to Brockhampton.
