A TEAM of riders from the Ledbury branch of the Pony Club beat off stiff competition at the Area 9 showjumping competition, held in Worcestershire last week, to come second, beaten only on time.

Charlotte Jeffes, aged 15, Rachel Launder, 19, both from Eldersfield, Mary Bisco, 19, from High Leadon near Newent and Amy Perry, 18, from Mathon formed one of only two teams to go through to a jump-off after jumping two clear rounds at heights of up to one metre 20cms.

After a heart-stopping jump-off they were cumulatively just 9.2 seconds slower than the winning Vale of the White Horse team, which has gone through to the prestigious Pony Club Championships to be held at Sansaw Park in Shropshire on Tuesday (August 19).

Area 9 includes 20 Pony Club branches from the counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Avon and Oxfordshire and 68 riders took part in last week's competition, hosted this year by the Croome Hunt branch.
