Colwall'S Sunday development XI put up a brave fight but were comfortably beaten by a strong Kington side.

COLWALL v KINGTON

Visting skipper Exall was pleased to win the toss and chose to bat and was even more pleased when after just 12 overs he reached his 50. He batted aggressively and rode his luck but put Kington in an extremely strong position. When he finally holed out, to a perfectly judged catch at long off by 13-year-old Harry Lowles, he had made 79.

With Exall gone Colwall were able to exert some control. Matt Berry bowled a tidy spell and Ben Ford showed considerable promise in a five-over spell of off spin picking up the wicket of Brierly caught above his head at silly point by Richard Egglington. Tom Wolfendale, in a rare Sunday appearance, bowled another respectable spell of medium pace picking up two wickets. However, a side strain picked up in his final later hampered his batting.

Needing six an over, Colwall wanted a good start, they did not get it, losing three quick wickets in the first five overs. Ben Ford and Matt King set about the recovery, they were untroubled but unable to press the pace. Tom Wolfendale joined Ford and increased the run rate, but with Ford tied down by the spinners, the rate grew. With 16 overs to go and a run rate required of over eight, Colwall's second young debutant, Rhys Davey strode to the wicket. In a nerveless performance, Davey hit out enthusiastically and was an excellent foil to Wolfendale.

However, the run rate finally grew to excessive proportions and despite a late flurry from Tim Riley Colwall fell short as last man Hill was LBW with two overs remaining.
