Colwall travelled to Wiltshire with a young side including four under 17s with league debuts being given to Matt King and 15-year-old Ben Ford.

COLWALL v GOATACRE

Tom Wolfendale won the toss and decided to bat first in blistering heat.

Wayward opening bowling allowed Tom Wolfendale and David Powell to score 33 in the first four overs. The openers had taken the score to 46 in the eighth over when a misunderstanding lead to Wolfendale being run out.

Powell was then joined at the wicket by Josh Hornyold and the pair added 61 for the second wicket taking the score to 107 when Hornyold played too early to loft a catch to a Kevin Iles delivery being dismissed for 24. Barney Bamford soon followed to leave Colwall at 122-3 after 30 overs.

Tim Riley then joined Powell and the pair started to pick up the pace of the innings. They initially took the score to 180-3 after 40 overs.

From this point Riley launched a determined attack on the Goatacre attack in the last ten overs. The pair added 87 in the last ten overs to allow Colwall to post 267-3. Riley finished 80no from only 62 balls including 12 fours and one six.

Meanwhile Powell weighed in with his third 100 of the season making 129no from 141 balls with one six and 21 fours.

In reply Andy Sutton bowled a good hostile opening spell removing both opening batsmen. Meanwhile Tom Wolfendale on his first league bowl of the season produced an unplayable delivery to bowl Ed Wilkins.

However Goatacre continued to score at a decent rate and were very much in the match at 84-3 in the 19th over.

Excellent cricket from Colwall over the next three overs turned the game decisively in their favour. Firstly Wolfendale dismissed the dangerous Kevin Iles thanks to a fine one handed slip catch from Tim Riley.

Then Matt King capped a good spell by removing John Wilkins for 36 aided by a running catch from Wolfendale. Finally Wolfendale dismissed Parish accepting a return catch off his own bowling. This left Goatacre at 86-6 and effectively out of the match.

Despite some lusty blows from Turner a brilliant catch on the boundary from Ben Ford off Dave Sutton signalled the end of any potential Goatacre resistance.

The two Suttons proceeded to polish off the tail and dismiss Goatacre for 130. Andy Sutton returned figures of 4-28, Wolfendale 3-55 and Dave Sutton 2-20 as Colwall completed a comprehensive victory by 137 runs.
