With weeks of the summer school holidays still to go, parents visiting the Cotswolds should consider taking their children to Fort Sudeley, the imaginative adventure playground set in the magnificent gardens at Sudeley Castle just outside Cheltenham.

Children's imaginations can run riot as they sail in Boteler's Boat and cross the swinging bridge to protect John De Sudeley's Castle. Climbing high into the trees along the Siege Tower Walk or hiding in the tunnels and dungeons of the castle is sure to entertain even the most adventurous youngsters, while more timid siblings can still enjoy themselves supervising the activities from the two main watchtowers.

The fort is designed for the over fives but there is also a small play area for toddlers.

Throughout the summer there is a number of exciting children's activities planned:

Monday, August 18 - Dried Flowers - bookmarks and cards

Wednesday, August 20 - Shields - design and make your own shield

Monday, August 25 - Medieval Fun Day starting on the Falcon Lawn at 12.30pm

Wednesday, August 27 - Collages - create imaginative art from a variety of materials

Places may be limited for certain activities and tickets need to be collected from the visitor centre upon arrival. Children are advised to bring an apron or wear old clothes for messy activities.

l Fort Sudeley is open every day until November 2 from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Cost is just £1.50 per child, under fives and adults are admitted free of charge (except Medieval Fun Day on Monday, August 25 when entry is £6 adults and £3.75 for children over 5).
