ST Martin's, who are struggling at the foot of the table, pulled off the shock result of the season in the Nash Rocks League when they beat leaders Kington by one shot on the very last wood played.
St Martin's were given a marvellous start when Brian Rand's rink put 22 shots on the board without reply after just nine ends. Kington managed a fighting comeback and the match result finally hung on the last end of the last rink to finish.
With the scores tied, John Gill, for St Martin's, knew that he had to play a scoring shot with his last bowl to win the match. And he played the perfect bowl to take shot wood.
Kington's defeat has let Hay back into top place by two points after their win against Weobley. With two games in hand over Kington, Hay would now seem to have the edge on the second-placed team.
However, Leominster, now lying third, are well placed to mount their challenge as they have a game in hand on Hay.
Their home match with Hay in the next round of games could go a long way to deciding the likely outcome of this year's championship.
