A FORMER Hereford school boy has taken the music world by storm after he struck the right chords without even playing an instrument.
Andy Hunt, 28, who went to Aylestone High School and now lives in Birmingham, impressed judges with his air guitar-playing prowess as he moved into the national finals of a competition devoted to the bedroom past-time.
As a boy, Andy spent hours practising with a real guitar and dreamed of fame as he formed a rock band with his Hereford friends.
"The height of our success was the Spread Eagle Beer Festival where we only played the one song, Born to be Wild," explained the former lead guitarist.
However, those teenage fantasies have now resurfaced following Andy's success at the regional finals of the rock competition in Digbeth, Birmingham.
Unexpected
Performing Bathroom Wall by 1980s stadium rockers Faster Pussycat gave Andy victory - a success he clearly was not expecting.
"It was a real shock to win the tournament as I only went to watch the competition with my brother, Richard. We both entered for a laugh and I somehow won," he said modestly.
Having beaten the best from the West Midlands, Andy goes on to London on September 14 in hope of qualifying for the world championships in Finland.
"I am not thinking about Scandinavia yet, that's a long way off. At the moment I maybe walking on air but I am keeping my feet fixed firmly to the floor," he added.
