As the headteacher accompanying the party of school children so kindly praised by Mr and Mrs Barber on your letters page (July 24) I felt I owed it to the children to identify them.
We were a party of 16 Y6 children and three staff from Garway Primary School, travelling to and from London on that very hot day, and the children had set off from Hereford at 7.03 that morning.
It was therefore all the more heartening to read the Barbers' letter and to note that there are such understanding and thoughtful people using our trains.
We are very proud of the children at the school and visitors often comment on their caring attitude towards each other, but for strangers to make the effort to write to you and praise our pupils was most kind.
Please pass on my thanks to Mr and Mrs Barber.
I hope our pupils will grow up to be as responsible and appreciative as they obviously now are.
Well done, children! Keep up the good work as you move on to high schools.
S M JONES,
Garway Primary School,
Garway.
