GRAHAM Turner is backing his Hereford United players to hold their nerve against rivals Forest Green Rovers tonight (7.45).
Buoyant Bulls withstood an early onslaught from Tamworth on Saturday to chalk up an opening day 3-1 victory and Turner expects a similarly tough encounter at Edgar Street this evening.
"The Tamworth game was an excellent result for us and perfect start to the season," said the Hereford manager.
"There were some nerves early on but despite us living dangerously I never felt uncomfortable.
"It was so hot, and it was really hard to get going, but once Steve Guinan scored we had them on the back foot and deserved the win.
"The goal from Guinan was terrific. He scored 15 for us last season and I think he could get more this term," he added.
"I expect another tough battle against Forest Green with all the added spice of them being local rivals. However, we showed we've got the nerve to handle whatever is thrown at us.
"I saw Rovers last week and they remain a decent side, strong with the likes of Neil Grayson still in there causing problems."
Midfielder Rob Sawyers is a doubt after pulling out of training yesterday with a knock while Rovers will be without Gareth Stoker who suffered a shoulder injury in their goalless draw with Northwich Victoria.
Former Bulls' boss Colin Addison, now in charge at The Lawn, will be happier with an evening kick off and cooler conditions after Saturday's stifling temperatures reminded him of his time as a manager in Spain.
"It was like being back at Atletico Madrid or Cadiz with 34 degree temperatures," he said.
Addison will again rely on teenage forward Scott Rogers, signed from Tiverton Town on a one-year deal, and Bristol Rovers loan signing Dave Gilroy to provide Rovers' goal threat.
Ben Smith demonstrated his value to Hereford with two well-taken goals against the Lambs and getting off to a good start in the Conference is crucial, stresses the ex-Arsenal youngster.
"Once you start well, then anything can happen but if we have a poor start, then we're always playing catch-up," he said.
"We've started well and if we get to the top, hopefully we can stay there all season."
Last year's corresponding fixture between the two sides produced a 3-1 win for Hereford with goals from Ian Wright, Paul Parry and Danny Williams sealing victory.
FORMCAST: Bulls to win 2-0.
