A FLYING winger called Giggs is set to feature for Hereford United tonight in their first pre-season friendly against Second Division Tranmere Rovers at Edgar Street (7.45).
Rod Giggs, younger brother of Manchester United star Ryan, is expected to line-up for the Bulls as Director of Football Graham Turner runs an eye over him. He previously played for Aberystwyth Town.
Also poised to play is ex-Chesterfield defender Danny Williams, but Ashley Nicholls will not figure after travelling to Third Division Darlington to discuss a contract.
Turner has offered former Ipswich Town midfielder Nicholls a contract and is waiting on the youngster to make a decision.
Turner admits the Tranmere match has come a bit early but said the friendly would provide some much-needed money.
"You can't always chose your dates and we would have preferred to get some other games under our belts," he said.
"However it is about fitness and gives us the chance to experiment with different formations."
Turner is set to change his defensive formation with new signing Andy Tretton from Shrewsbury Town linking up for the first time with captain Ian Wright and Tony James in a three-man rearguard.
"Andy's arrival gives us the chance to play with three at the back and see how it looks during the first part of pre-season," he said.
"We know we can play 4-4-2 but we've two strong wing-backs in the shape of Matt Clarke and Michael Rose who have got power and pace and get down the flanks."
Matt Baker will play in goal after training with Third Division Leyton Orient this week, while new striker John Grant should also figure.
Former Republic of Ireland international striker David Kelly and ex-Wrexham midfielder Wayne Phillips have rejected moves to Edgar Street after talks with Turner.
