Hereford United lacked a killer instinct in front of goal in a 0-0 draw against League of Wales outfit Aberystwyth Town last night at Park Avenue.
The Bulls failed to find the net for the third time in five pre-season friendlies but they did manage to blunt a spirited attacking force which scored nine goals against Milford United on Saturday.
But it was the Welsh club who came closest to breaking the deadlock on 75 minutes when United goalkeeper Matt Baker did well to tip over a 25-yard drive from Anthony Wright.
Hereford, who included trialists Steve Guinan and Andy Baird in attack, created the first opening when Guinan fired over the bar.
Michael Rose almost put the Bulls in front eight minutes before the interval when he shot into the side netting and then Matt Clarke fired wide from a good position.
The Welsh side improved noticeably in the second period and Baker needed to be alert to hold a free-kick from defender David Burrows.
The home team almost snatched a late winner through Wright.
Hereford: Baker, Clarke, Rose, Tretton, Wright, James, Pitman (Purdie 61), Guinan, Baird (Grant 74), Williams, Sawyers (Parry). Subs not used: Teesdale, Griffiths.
