The director of the global charity Christian Aid, Dr Daleep Mukarji, came to Ledbury to personally thank collectors and appeal co-ordinators for their hard work.
Ledbury area co-ordinator Muriel Mason was particularly thanked for her work in ensuring a highly successful collection this year, and for her efforts in organising Dr Mukarji's visit.
Local volunteers raised more than £5,000 during house to house collections in May.
Dr Mukarji, whose visit took place last Thursday (June 12), explained that the money would be used in South Africa, to help mothers and babies infected with AIDS/HIV, and to help people in the Holy Land who were trapped and vulnerable because of the fighting.
