DEEP in the heartland of the Herefordshire countryside one of English literature's greatest heart throbs is being brought back to life.
Filming is underway at Kentchurch Court, near Pontrilas, of Channel 4's 'Regency House Party' - a series promising the reality TV of 'Big Brother' mixed with the costume drama of 'Pride and Prejudice'.
The star will be the show's own Mr Darcy played by a real-life 21st century bachelor who will have the run of the house and its 156-acre estate along with the pick of the girls.
According to Channel 4's description, the chosen Mr Darcy will vie with five other 'bucks' for the attentions of six specially-selected 'dainty' young women during a summer of pampered elegance.
Some Regency pursuits planned include drinking (to excess), gambling, boxing and hunting in addition to the daily feasting.
The aim is for the cast to find their perfect partner, with all participants single and aged from 18 to 35.
As first revealed in the Hereford Times last month, Kentchurch Court has been selected by production company Wall to Wall for its authentic 18th century ambience. Before filming, the production company spent weeks preparing the house to return it to its 18th century splendour.
Made by the same team responsible for Channel 4's 'The Edwardian Country House' the series is due to be screened early in 2004.
