ST EDWARD'S CHURCH -- Father Andrew Pearce celebrated Eucharist for Whitsunday at St Edward's church last week. Audrey Green and the Rev. Donald Green read the lessons and Father Andrew led the intercessions. Hilary Howcroft directed the St Edward's Choir which sang the anthem 'God is Spirit' by Sir William Sterndale Bennett (1816-75). Cecil Rudge was organist. Richard Wood and Kevin Kell assisted in the distribution of the communion. The service ended, in complete contrast to the traditional way it had begun, with a bouncy modern hymn: 'The Spirit lives to set us free' by Damian Lundy (b.1944).
FLORAL ART WORKSHOP -- In conjunction with take pART week St Edward's Church is organising a floral art workshop in the Church Hall on Friday, July 4 from 10am to 12noon and from 2pm to 4pm. MACMILLAN CANCER RELIEF --Macmillan Cancer Relief will hold a jumble sale in Knighton Church Hall on Saturday, June 21 at 3pm. The Macmillan Mile for Cancer Relief raised £1391.86, with a little more still to come in. "Many thanks to all who took part and raised this money on a slightly miserable evening," said a spokesperson for the local committee. "We look forward to seeing you at our jumble sale on June 21 in the Church Hall. Plants will be for sale as usual thanks to Mrs Vogel's sterling efforts in raising a lot of them."
KNIGHTON COMMUNITY CENTRE --The next NRG Nite with DJs DS Joff and Wobble at Knighton Community Centre will be on Friday, June 20 from 9.30pm to 1am. WEDNESDAY CLUB -- Helpers at a recent meeting of Knighton and District Wednesday Club were Mrs N Barrett and Mrs E Conway. Winners in the raffle were Mrs R Parry, Mr D Lewis, Mrs V Parker-Smith, Mrs M Payne, Mrs N Barrett, Mrs E Conway and Mrs Moss. Mrs Conway was caller for bingo. The Wednesday Club meets every week in the Social Room, St Edward's Close.

ST EDWARD'S CHURCH -- Last Sunday was Trinity Sunday and Father Andrew Pearce officiated at a special celebration of the East for the Parish of East Radnor at Saint Edward's Church. The service included music by The Pilgrim Singers directed by Geoffrey Weaver FRSCM, and the baptism of Joanna Margaret and Emma Louise, twin daughters of Ian and Jane Bywater. Geoffrey Weaver read the lesson and Peter Waters and Kevin Kell assisted with the distribution of the Communion. Father Andrew thanked Mr Weaver for leading the Pilgrimage of Song and for directing the Pilgrim Singers, the choir that emerged from the weekend. He also thanked Hilary Howcroft for organising the weekend. From July 5-12, there will be a festival of floral art and paintings of flowers at St Edward's Church. The church will be open from 10am- noon and 2-5pm at weekends and from 2-4pm from Monday to Friday.
CREATIVE WRITING -- The theme for the creative writing class in Knighton's Horticultural, Floral and Handicrafts Show will be 'One day at a time'. Entries should be approximately 500 words and should be submitted by August 16. Entries can either be sent to Mrs P M Pugh, Cwmwhitton, Knighton or handed in at the Library in West Street. The Horticultural, Floral Handicrafts Show will be held in Knighton Community Centre on Saturday, August 30 in conjunction with the show and carnival.
