WHEN a Kington youngster gave a man a life home from work over half a century ago little did he realise that the passenger would soon become his father-in-law.
Joseph and Jean Vaughan hosted a family party at the Burton Hotel after 50 years of marriage attended by their twin sons, David and Jonathan, youngest son Mark and the couple's five grandchildren.
The pair first met when Mr Vaughan - a worker on Kington railway - gave his future wife's father a lift to his Lyonshall home.
Mr Vaughan proposed when the couple went out for a walk and the pair married at St Michael's All Angels Church in Lyonshall. Their love of walking continues today and they often go out for a stroll as well as looking after their garden and visiting their grandchildren.
When quizzed on the secret of a long and happy marriage Mrs Vaughan said: "I think it is listening to each other - you actually have to work at a marriage as well."
