SEVERAL local trainers and drivers made a successful trip to Pikehall Harness Races in the Derbyshire Peak District last weekend.
In blazing sunshine, 18-year-old Julian Price partnered Fold Flight, trained by his mother Julie at Presteigne, to a notable Improver victory at the prestigious meeting, while Huw Evans' Scoot Around seized a novice event by a length. Brian Davies travelled hopefully from Sennybridge with Briwyn's Tomi, aware that he was taking on the best Intermediates in the country, including Libby Lloyd's breath-taking Biotal Scoot. But despite a mistake, Briwyn's Tomi challenged and headed his rivals by a length.
Sarah Mould, the leading lady driver of Wales & West, was delighted when her family's home-bred mare, Pru's Princess sizzled home in the first open heat.
And despite spirited opposition from top class horses in the final, Sarah and Pru's Princess sprinted to a triumphant victory to land the £2,000 prize.
