THE International meeting under BHRC rules at Leominster on Thursday evening was an outstanding success for the Wales & West 'home team'.
Plenty of people came to 'party' and see the team of four American visiting drivers testing their skills on a grass circuit for the very first time, so the atmosphere was buzzing.
Sennybridge man Brian Davies is a former world record-holder for shearing the most number of sheep in a day and had been demonstrating his art for the Americans.
They were equally impressed with his skill as a reinsman when he opened the account for the British with the fiery Briwyn's Jodi, who just snatched victory from the veteran Max Factor and his owner, Pete Collins.
The Feature International match race over a mile and a quarter attracted some of the best horses in the region. But some of the visiting drivers were wrong-footed when Briwyn's Jodi had to be cajoled patiently into position by Gareth Price, causing a false start.
Goldwood and Dr Mike Ternisky blasted out of the gate to set a fast pace following the recall, but David Bevan seared to the front with Medina Hanover to take control.
The field swooped turning for home, but Price urged Briwyn's Jodi on to steal her second race of the evening, giving Price a double and a memorable victory for the British team.
Next meeting: Leominster, Sunday 2 pm.
