Bromyard Town recorded a hard earned 1-0 West Midlands League Premier Division victory over local rivals Westfields on Tuesday night thanks to a late Luke Willetts goal.
BROMYARD TOWN 1, WESTFIELDS 0
The visitors held the upper hand during the first half with Chris Jefferson, one of four former Town players in the Westfields line up, missing their best opportunity in the 30th minute when he could only prod the ball into keeper Jamie Lambert's arms from close range following a right wing cross. Wayne Hoskins the saw a diving header turned round the post by Lambert on the stroke of half time.
Darren Gwynne almost gave Bromyard the lead when his shot was deflected for a corner in the opening minute of the second half and Jefferson then headed just over for Westfields in the 47th minute. With two minutes of normal time remaining Willetts broke clear to lob over keeper John Meek for the winning goal and in the last minute of normal time he set up Andy James following a similar break but his fellow striker could only hit the ball into the side netting with the goal unguarded leaving Bromyard to endure a tense five minutes of injury time.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Bromyard Town are due to visit Shawbury United (2.45).
