HOODED smash and grab raiders attacked a jeweller's shop in full view of lunchtime shoppers. Staff and passers-by tackled one of the gang, but two others fled to a getaway car with their haul.
The attack astonished police in Ross-on-Wye. It occurred as the shop was open and without any apparent fear of witnesses or intervention.
Side windows to David Christopher Jewellers in The Maltings, Broad Street, were smashed with a sledgehammer and items snatched from the display at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, September 26.
Three suspects, two raiders and a driver, are being sought. They escaped along Broad Street in a red car - about which more details are needed.
All wore balaclavas during the attack.
Officers have already interviewed a number of eyewitnesses. But anyone who believes they have additional information can contact the CID office at Hereford central police station (01432 276422) or the 0800 555 111 Crime Stoppers line.
l A 22-year-old man has been charged with burglary and allowing to be carried in a vehicle taken without consent.
Daniel Leach, of Castle Vale, West Midlands is due before Worcester Crown Court today.
