Brintons 1 Leominster Town 0
LEOMINSTER paid the penalty for missing numerous chances and slipped to their second defeat of the season in West Midlands League Division 1 South against high-fliers Brintons.
Both teams created plenty of chances in an open, enterprising game but it was the home team who converted the all-important first-half chance.
They now join Town in joint second place, one point adrift of Sedgley who defeated Bridgnorth to take over top spot.
Leominster enjoyed the better of the first period but were always susceptible to the counter-attack. After Steve and Ashley Botwood had gone close, Brintons took the lead on 15 minutes when the unmarked Steve Mares met a corner kick on the edge of the box and gave Scott Hodgetts no chance with a first-time volley.
The visitors pressed forward but could not force an equaliser.
Brintons became more adventurous after the interval and created plenty of chances themselves, twice hitting the woodwork and seeing another two efforts well saved by Hodgetts.
But Steve Williams, Dan Plowman and Daniel Rocke all went close to salvaging a point.
