WELLINGTON maintained their unbeaten start to their first season in the Midland Floodlit Youth League with a 3-2 home win over Cheltenham Town in the Southern Division on Tuesday.
Wellington took a first-half lead through Danny Amies, and Danny Stevens made it 2-0 in the second half.
Cheltenham replied before Andy Sherlock scored the home team's third. Local boy Matthew Williams, now with Cheltenham, netted for the visitors, while Sherlock had a shot well saved in the closing stages.
Wellington entered an under-18 team in the league for the first time in their history to provide an important stepping stone between junior and senior football. The squad is already being utilised by the club with many of the players turning out for the senior teams in both the West Midlands League and Hereford Times Herefordshire League.
