Bustleholme 3 Wellington 2

THE form book went out of the window as lowly Bustleholme inflicted defeat on in-form Wellington in the Premier Division of the West Midlands League.

The home team, who had picked up a solitary point from their first 11 matches, played good football, led for much of the game and finished worthy winners.

Meanwhile, Wellington, who had suffered only one defeat in their previous eight matches, produced a spirited last few minutes which saw them reduce the 3-1 deficit and have two last-gasp efforts blocked.

Bustleholme started confidently and were soon ahead. A flowing movement ended with visiting centre-back Michael Cole unluckily conceding an own goal as he attempted to clear under severe pressure.

Peter Wallace headed an equaliser from a Stuart Gwynne cross midway through the half.

The second period started the same as the first with the home team regaining the initiative. They went back in front when a long punt up-field was flicked on into the net. The match seemed over when they scored a third with five minutes to go. Another flowing move ended with a cross from the right being rammed home.

Peter Wallace gave the villagers some hope when he reduced arrears with a header in the last minute of normal time. They upped the tempo in search of an equaliser and deep in injury time both Wallace and Brad Pearson watched as goal-bound efforts rebounded off their own team-mates.
