COLIN Stanbridge produced a superb round of golf to win Ross-on-Wye's Autumn scratch and handicap medal competitions.
Playing the full-length course, he shot a gross round of 71 to win the scratch competition by three strokes from Tony Green, and, with his eight handicap, took the nett competition by the same margin from David Hart.

n Kington and Hereford-shire GC occupied the bottom two places when they played their annual quadrangular match at Shifnal and Lilleshall for the Hekilish Trophy. The competition involved the two Herefordshire clubs playing both of their Shropshire hosts over two days in a 14-a-side better-ball stableford.
Kington did give Shifnal a hard match before going down to a narrow defeat on the first day but the other three matches were rather one sided. Lilleshall took the Hekilish Trophy with Hereford picking up the wooden spoon.
First day: Shifnal 267, Kington 264 (top scorers Vic Baggott and Mike Waygood 39 pts); Lilleshall 286, Hereford 250 (Ian Carpenter and Willie Weaver 38).

n Martin Dent (80-6-74) won the Belmont House Trophy with Tristan Dodd (81-5-76) beating Steve Hughes (82-6-76) on countback for second place.
n A large field overcame the adverse weather conditions as Knighton held their Radnor Hills Pairs competition for the first time.

n Thirty teams of four competed in Sapey's charity golf day, which raised £4,000 for the Prostate Cancer Support Group.
