ORIENTEER John Rich-ards secured a fourth-place finish with the British Police Team at the European Championships near Budapest, Hungary.
The Hereford police officer was the only member of West Mercia Consta-bulary at the third European tournament.
Richards, of Credenhill, also achieved a creditable 20th position in the 45-55 age group of the men's 3.5km sprint.
He said: "It was a tremendous experience and the first time I had been selected for the European Championships.
"We competed against eight other nations. Swedish police were the overall winners and the Hungarian team came second."
Richards added: "Per-sonally, I was pleased with my individual placing in the sprint event. I also took part in the Classic over 6km, but came 23rd."
Meanwhile Richards, also a member of Wye Valley Orienteers, is the course planner for a badge event being staged next May in Fownhope Park.
The competition will count towards national rankings points and he is hoping it will attract between 500 and 600 competitors.
