TOWN COUNCIL -- Kington Town Council is thinking of having its own website and is seeking the views of the townspeople on the proposal, says its clerk Esther Rolls. It would like townspeople's help and seeks feedback from them as soon as possible. She particularly wants answers to two questions -- Would you use the website? and What would you like to see on it? Responses to Mrs Rolls at the council offices, 2 Mill Street, Kington HR5 3BH, telephone or fax 01544 239098.
FULL HOUSE -- The work of the registered charity Full House, which provides low-cost furniture to those most disadvantaged in society, is a cause which has the blessing of Kington Town Council. In conjunction with Herefordshire Council and FOCSA Services Ltd, which is responsible for the local refuse collection, the charity collects unwanted, usable furniture and household effects, via the Parish Freighter Furniture Service. Full House always needs more furniture available for distribution, says chief executor, John Jordan, seeking publicity -- through the town council -- for the service which it operates to the benefit of donors, recipients and the environment.
CHARITY SALE -- A charity sale held at Kington Market Hall in September, raised £420 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, reports local organiser Vera Hobby, who thanks all those who helped in any way towards the success of the event.
LADY HAWKINS' SCHOOL -- Two students of Lady Hawkins' School, Laura Lane and Clem Attwood, who spent two weeks of this summer in the Gambia, were praised for their hard work while they were there, by a visitor to the school. Marcel Badji, director of an enterprising community farm project in one of the remotest parts of the Gambia, said that Laura and Clem, along with six other students from Herefordshire who made the trip, "had planted trees in our soil and left their hearts with us".
SPONSORED WALK -- A sponsored walk, in which 12 people participated, has raised more than £700 for the Save the Children Fund, and donations are still being received by its Kington committee, says spokesman John Morgans. It was greeted with the usual generous response, he adds, "and the committee is most grateful to all those who supported it, both walkers and sponsors".
DINNER -- The annual dinner of the Kington branch of the Royal British Legion has been arranged for November 17 at the Burton Hotel and is timed for 7.30pm for 8pm.
