BROMYARD-based Volkswagen driver Nick Adcock raced to second placed at Donington Park last Sunday, equalling his best race placing of the season.
Adcock, aged 36, was taking part in a special season-closing Volkswagen Racing Cup event at the Leicestershire circuit, appearing on the same bill as the prestigious British Touring Car Championship.
Nick qualified his Electromotion-backed Beetle RSi in third position on the grid, behind the Corrado of Ken Lark (Harpenden) and the Vento VR6 of Rob Carvell (Norwich) and just ahead of the Beetle of newly crowned champion Mike Neuhoff (Helmdon).
At the start of the race it was Neuhoff who made the best getaway, slicing into the lead at the first corner to lead from Carvell, the Beetle of Mark Sumpter (Halland) and Adcock.
Adcock made short work of Sumpter to claim third place on the second lap, and then set about reeling in Carvell for second. The Herefordshire driver managed to find a way past him on the seventh lap.
By then Neuhoff's lead was too great to attack and Adcock had to settle for second place at the chequered flag, 8.4 seconds behind.
The 2001 Volkswagen Racing Cup was supported by Volkswagen Racing UK, Dunlop, Frazero, Cambridge Business Travel, bgcarhifi.com and Electromotion.
