JILL Oates and Joan Malim fought out an exciting dual for the Ross-on-Wye GC Club Championship.
Oates was in the ascendancy for much of the contest but had to wait until the final hole of the 36-hole scratch competition before finally clinching the crown by one hole.
Malim trailed by three holes at the turnaround, but fought back to level by the 31st. The next hole proved crucial. With Malim poised to take the lead, her opponent held her nerve to get a half, and this finally broke the spirited fight-back as she lost the lead at the next.
The Bronze Scratch Cup was an even tighter finish. The 18-hole event between Debbie Woods and Margaret Reeves finished all square but Woods, who had been ahead for much of the contest, finally came through to win at the first extra hole.
Reeves fought back from one down after nine to level on the 12th, and then went two holes behind, only to take the 17th and 18th to force the sudden-death play-off.
Amanda Marshall used her greater local experience to win the final of the Summer Knockout as she defeated relative newcomer Di Honey, an overall more experienced player.
