SAY no to houses and yes to playing fields was the message from more than 40 protesters in Friar Street on Tuesday morning.
Representing Lord Scudamore Primary School the banner waving mums boycotted councillors as they emerged from land wanted by the school and community for an all weather playing field.
Protest spokeswoman and chair of the school's PTA, Julie Woodward said: "It's the traffic we were protesting about really. McCarthy and Stone want to put 77 properties on the site and there are only 55 parking spaces. It's a narrow street with double yellow lines down both sides and it will not take the increase in traffic."
The school, which has collected at least 2,000 signatures against the proposed development over the last few months, still holds out hope the developers will share some of the plot.
"We would dearly love for them to change their minds - and if the application is turned down we may still have a chance," added Mrs Woodward.
