NORTH Herefordshire grandfather Roly Jones was cheered on by more than 200 people when he tackled a 'weighty matter' on his 80th birthday.
The Bockleton octogenarian carried 80 kilograms for 80 yards - a feat that would make many a younger man turn pale.
Roly, who raised more than £3,500 for the Kidney Research Association and Tenbury Wells Royal Naval Association welfare fund, was 'launched' by mayor Peter Mound during the recent Tenbury Buffs charity car boot sale.
Roly completed the walk in just under three minutes, pausing to ask people in the cheering crowd: "When is the next Yarranton's bus due?"
Leominster Leisure Centre loaned the weights and staff member Paul Jones helped Roly with his training.
Paul said: "This feat would be a tough task for most able-bodied men, but for someone of 80 it is quite remarkable.
