JAMES Gillray was the leading caricaturist of the late eighteenth century, and an artist of outstanding inventiveness and originality whose work -continues to influence cartoonists today.
He is the subject of this year's summer show at the Tate which has received enormous publicity ensuring that Gillray's work becomes more widely known than at any time since his death in 1815. Most people will recognise his work.
