ON Saturday, Church choirs from across the Diocese will be joining with the cathedral choir to sing at the annual Royal School of Church Music Festival service in Hereford Cathedral.
The newly appointed organist and director of music, Geraint Bowen, will direct the choirs, consisting of several hundred singers, for the first time. His assistant, Peter Dyke will play the organ.
The service this year is entitled 'This Our Sacrifice of Praise' and is based around the Eucharist, which, as for most churches is the main service of the week.
The music will consist of a mass by David Sanger and other music by Mozart, Percy Whitlock, and Stephen Gowland - a Lay Clerk at the Cathedral; together with a number of congregational hymns. The choirs as usual have been practising hard for this event, the work above their week by week commitments.
For many this is the highlight of the year, to come and sing in the cathedral, and all are welcome to attend this joyous occasion.
