WATCHING the transformation of green field to buzzing venue, Bromyard Folk Festival organiser Annie Jones this week reflected on what a hard year it has been.
"Because of foot and mouth, the decision to go ahead with the festival was made late in the day and we're trying to cram an awful lot into a short space of time," she said.
"Even last-minute alterations have had to be made because of what happened in New York last week. The strange knock-on effect has meant that police have got no leave and volunteer stewards had to pull out. We've got enough stewards to fill in but it just meant another job to do.
"We eventually found enough accommodation in Bromyard for all the visiting musicians but all the way through this year there have been things that have made it a trial. It has been very hard."
The festival begins at 8pm today (Friday) and continues tomorrow and Sunday. Acts will be performing in venues around the town, as well as in three marquees off Stourport Road - the biggest hosting concerts and the other two containing smaller gigs, children's events and ceilidhs.
Morris, clog and Appalachian dancers will be seen both on site and around the town, giving outdoor displays. Weekend tickets are £46 but day tickets are also available. For further information, contact the website at www.bromyard-folk-festival. org.uk or phone 01531 670593.
