Alternative ideas for a new library in Bromyard are to be looked at.
That was the pledge by Herefordshire Council officers to the town council this week.
After last week's meeting of the Bromyard District Liaison Group, in which local residents strongly objected to the Clive Richards Function Suite at the leisure centre being used to house a mobile library, officers Alan Blundell and John Burnett said they would look at other possibilities.
Mr Blundell said: "All of the comments and suggestions made during the meeting and other written submissions will be considered before final proposals are developed.
"A report will be presented to Cabinet during October."
Herefordshire Council had suggested using the Clive Richards Function Suite as the present library is in a poor state of repair. Officers said it could still be used for functions and at other times as a library with the books on trolleys.
However, a 1,200-name petition opposing the plan was presented to county council leader Terry James.
The function suite was built in 1990 with the help of local fundraising and a £50,000 donation from benefactor Clive Richards. It is regularly used by a variety of clubs for fundraising and activities such as dances, weddings and parties.
