A Ledbury town councillor has renewed calls for a meeting with the fire service to discuss how it would cope with a major town centre blaze following a house fire in the Homend.

Coun Spencer Lane was prompted by a recent chimney fire in the Homend.

One appliance from Ledbury and one from Malvern were called to the incident, which was quickly brought under controlled and did not cause any major structural damage.

Coun Lane originally spoke out after the blaze which gutted the Seven Stars pub and damaged two more buildings at the other end of the Homend in July.

He said that if conditions were different, the fire could have spread to even more buildings.

At a meeting of Ledbury Town Council last Thursday (September 13), he said: "There has just been another fire in the Homend, in another old building, and this could have had similar results."

Coun Lane is looking for reassurance that the fire service has sufficient resources to cope should the town centre, which includes many ancient wooden-framed buildings, be affected by a major fire.
