PLANS for a housing development on the site of Ledbury's old abbatoir should be thrown out.
That is the view of the town council's planning committee, which visited the the Homend site before coming to its decision.
Pewter Homes Ltd, of Stourport, has applied for outline consent to build 39 two or three-storey houses on the site currently occupied by the abbatoir and a bungalow.
The planning committee's reasons for recommending refusal were that the density was too high, the two and three-storey housing were alien to the area and the access was unsatisfactory. They said they would give consideration to an application which included one or two-storey homes, shared access and a children's play area.
The final decision rests with Herefordshire Council.
