A HARVEST flower festival and history exhibition has been organised by the dozen-strong congregation at Frome Hill Church in their quest for money to repair the roof.

The festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, and will be accompanied by a local history exhibition of photos and slides.

The church will be open for viewing from 10-8pm on Saturday and 10-5pm on Sunday. At 6pm on Sunday, there will be a Sung Harvest Evensong with the Hereford Church Singers.

The event is the latest in a series of events to raise the £40,000 needed to fix the church roof.

Church warden Jill Southall said: "We've known about the problem for years and at the moment we've got a muck bin standing ready under a leaky patch in case of a sudden storm."

The congregation have already raised around £5,000 through other fundraising events and donations. These include one from a local amateur artist, from the proceeds of selling his work.
