A CAMPAIGN to save the Horseshoe Inn at Broom's Green has won the backing of Prince Charles.
Villagers formed the Horseshoe Inn Campaign (HIC) to make sure the building remains as a pub and wrote to the prince asking for help, as he has spoken out on the importance of pubs in rural communities.
They have received a letter in reply, signed by one of his staff, allowing them to use his 'Make Pubs the Hub' slogan.
The Horseshoe was closed for the last time on May 31 by its then owners Ken and Jackie Thomson. It was bought by Chris Tweedale, headteacher at John Masefield High School, but villagers have been unable to discover his plans for the pub.
Mr Tweedale will need planning permission if he wants to convert the bar area into domestic accommodation.
Penny Ely, one of the campaigners, said: "We have the support of the parish councils of Dymock, Donnington & Eastnor and Bromesberrow, and of the Forest of Dean District Council."
Protestors are also working closely with the Campaign for Real Ale and are planning a newsletter.
