WOMEN'S INSTITUTE -- The September meeting was held at Norton Manor by invitation of Ian Barr. In the absence of both president and secretary, their places were taken by Marjorie Hewins and Trish Jones. Members were pleased to record that Norton achieved second place in the 'Tea with Jane Austin' presentation at Knighton Show. Representatives are to take part in county activities this autumn, including the Pathway Exhibition where the Millennium book, 'Memories of Norton', will be displayed. All copies have been sold and the £550 raised is to be presented to East Radnorshire Day Centre. If further copies are required, a list will be compiled to judge the demand: telephone 01544 267245. Members welcomed Marilyn Thomas, appropriately since she, as liaison officer for the Pathway project, had launched the book at a party at Norton Manor earlier this year. She demonstrated card making using simple techniques that children could enjoy, as well as those needing advanced dexterity and much patience. Trish Jones thanked Marilyn for sharing her ideas and contributing to an enjoyable afternoon.
