WELL-KNOWN television presenter Julian Richards will give a talk about his programme 'Meet the Ancestors' on September 22.

This was made at Hereford Cathedral last year during excavations prior to the rebuilding of a toilet block adjacent to the cathedral. The remains of three priests and a child were found just beneath the surface together with chalices and patens used in communion; a privilege reserved for priests.

These are the first burials of this type to be found outside the building. Radio carbon dating and pottery place some of the burials in the mid-13th Century. One of the priestly burials was contained in a stone-lined grave.

The excavation featured in the BBC TV programme 'Meet the Ancestors in January. The work was funded by Hereford Cathedral.

The Hereford City and County Archaeological Trust arranged this talk, together with another on Hereford excavations.

It will be held in the College Hall, Vicars Choral on at 2.15 pm. Tickets are on sale at the door for £3 and all those interested are welcome.
