ORGANISERS who staged the first-ever Leominster Medieval Fair on a huge riverside site have decided to "have another go" despite their disappointment that the event flopped, in terms of attendance.
Up to 10,000 people were expected at the event - which included a dramatic re-enactment of the Battle of Mortimer's Cross - but only around 2,000 turned up over two days.
A free bus shuttle service from the town centre was barely used.
"We have learnt a lot of lessons and we'll try again next year," Joan Thwaites, spokeswoman for the organisers said this week.
She said craftspeople and traders who set up stalls at the event only broke even on their outlay but most had been "encouraging" and said they would come again next year.
The event gained backing from the town and county councils and the Leominster Regeneration Company but it was a victim of circumstances.
Foot and month caused changes of the date and venue. As a result, the fair clashed with another major event on the medieval re-enactments calendar. The Leominster organisers were let down when a group due to stage an arena act failed to turn up.
On the plus side, a number of Leominster clubs and groups pitched in to help..
""We'll do it again next year - and it will be better," said Joan Thwaites
