Hereford extended their unbeaten GM Vauxhall Conference run to five games but will be disappointed to have picked up only one point from a game which they dominated from start to finish.
The Bulls pinned Telford back in their own half for long periods but, for all their dominance, created precious few clear cut chances on an afternoon when the final killer pass or a decent cross from the flanks was rarely in evidence. Home goalkeeper Derek Dudley dealt competently with all the high balls sent in from the wings and not until the 81st minute was he seriously called into action to deal with a goal attempt. Then John Brough put in a fierce header from a Jamie Pitman free-kick but the keeper was equal to the challenge, touching the ball on to the cross-bar and over.
The scenario had looked as though it might be rather different when Hereford had the ball in the net within 15 seconds of the start. A Gavin Mahon pass released Neil Grayson down the right and United's top-scorer dragged his cross back for Ian Foster to hammer home from the edge of the box. But the referee ruled that the ball had gone out of play before Grayson's cross.
Grayson missed a great chance on 15 minutes when Chris Hargreaves, who showed up well again in his full-back role, sent in a cross from the left but the former Northampton player, completely unmarked a dozen yards from goal, scuffed his effort straight at Dudley. The Hargreaves- Grayson combination almost brought the opener two minutes before the interval when the full- back's shot, after a brisk one-two, was hacked off the line by Paul Challinor.
On-loan Nicky Ward got in a good effort for the home side just after the break but Hereford's most crucial moment came midway through the second period when Grayson ran on to a pass from Foster but then pulled up with what appeared to be a thigh strain. He continued for a short while after treatment from phsyiotherapist Simon Shakeshaft but limped off after 67 minutes.
Foster also had to leave the fray with a groin problem but Hereford held the balance of play in the closing stages and Telford's Steve Palmer, who had previously been cautioned for dissent, was sent off after upending Harg-reaves a minute from the end.
Hereford: Gayle, Warner, Rodgerson, Pitman, Brough, Walker, Hargreaves, Milner, Grayson (Fishlock 67 mins), Foster (sub Cook 83 mins), Mahon. Sub not used: Matthewson.
Attendance: 1,710.
