Hereford - five-goal hot-shots at Morecambe the previous week - could not reproduce that lethal finishing at Edgar Street Saturday and dropped two more GM Vauxhall Conference points.
The Bulls have conceded 12 points from eight home matches and this is the main reason why they are still trailing the leading pack of teams in eighth position.
Andy Milner, their on-loan signing from Chester City, followed up his hat- trick at Morecambe by firing United ahead in the 30th minute with a close- range shot after a corner from Murray Fishlock. But in first-half injury- time a mistake by Fishlock opened the way for Yeovil to equalise. He upended Steve Stott and Steve Parmenter, a loan signing from Bristol Rovers, beat Andy Quy with a perfectly-placed spot-kick. Both Fishlock and Jamie Pitman were booked for disputing the referee's decision.
It was the second time that Quy, who was making his first team home debut, had to face a first-period penalty. In the 13th minute Tring referee Bill Jordan ruled that John Brough was guilty of pushing. Warren Patmore hit his spot-kick with plenty of force but directed it straight at Quy who beat it away and the clearance was completed by Brian McGorry.
First-half injuries to central defenders Brough and Trevor Matthewson meant that United director of football Graham Turner was forced to re-organise his defence. Brough fell and broke three fingers in his hand in the 29th minute and was replaced by top scorer Neil Grayson, returning after a month's absence because of a thigh injury. Ian Foster dropped back into midfield to accommodate Grayson.
Matthewson retired at the interval with ankle ligament damage. His position was taken by Gavin Mahon, while substitute Rob Warner filled the midfield vacancy.
But Turner did not think the injuries had an emphatic effect on the result. He said: ''We only played well in short spells and there was not the brightness and movement we showed at Morecambe. Too often we persisted with attacking in one area of the field.''
There was plenty of goalmouth incident to make it an entertaining game. In the first half Richard Walker missed a great chance for United, heading over the bar, while Parmenter twice went close at the other end.
In the second period former Hereford keeper Tony Pennock brought off fine saves to keep out efforts from Ian Foster and Warner. But he stood helpless when Pitman drilled a 25-yarder against the bar.
Then, in the dying minutes, he stopped Grayson's shot with his legs as the striker tried to place rather than blast the ball into the net.
Pennock said afterwards: ''It's always good to make your point against your former club. Hereford had more chances but we ended the stronger side.'' Foster did net after the referee had whistled for off-side and was promptly booked. Quy was not idle either and was twice tested with well-struck shots from substitute Lee Archer.
Hereford: Quy, Rodgerson, Brough (Grayson 29 mins), Matthewson (Warner 45 mins), Walker, Pitman, McGorry, Mahon, Fishlock, Milner, Foster (Cook 77 mins).
Attendance: 2,768.
