SMETHWICK Rangers got off to a flying start in their away Express & Star West Midlands Regional League Premier Division match at Bromyard Town.
BROMYARD TOWN 1, SMETHWICK RANGERS 2
A quick break saw Jas Shergill bring out a fine reaction save from stand-in goalkeeper Andrew James, but he could do nothing to prevent Bains scoring from the resultant corner in the eighth minute.
Bromyard bounced back and created several chances to equalise. Lee Seldon headed over from a Luke Willetts cross and then Seldon should have scored when he shot against goalkeeper Jas Singh's legs when well placed.
Just before half time Seldon again had a great chance to score but he headed against the upright from six yards.
After the interval both sides had an equal share of the play but Jason Denton latched on to a right wing cross to increase the visitor's lead in the 60th minute.
Five minutes later Bromyard's left back Wayne Tizzard netted with a superb 22 yard free kick to get Bromyard back into the game.
The last 15 minutes saw Bromyard desperately fighting for an equaliser and the Smethwick goal led a charmed life on a couple of occasions particularly when Willetts shot wide and in the final minute Darren Gwynne could have pulled the Town level, but the visitors held on for a hard earned win.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Bromyard are away to Bustlehome (2.45).
